Heart of Maryland Bowhunters is a member-run organization committed to promoting the sport of archery through education, training and practical experience. We offer a place for everyone to learn, practice, and develop archery skills. All are welcome regardless of whether or not you are a hunter or a target archer. The club is a nonprofit organization under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)( (3).

Our Organization

The Heart of Maryland Bowhunters (HMB) was established in 1994 as a place for a small group of bowhunters to get together to practice their archery skills. Over the past 30 years we have grown into one of the very best 3D archery courses in Maryland.

The club is situated on 40 acres of the Patapsco State Park with three dedicated members-only practice ranges and a 3/4 mile loop course with 30 3D targets. The three practice ranges consist of a range with nine target butts placed at distances between 10 to 65 yards on a flat range, an elevated shooting platform (normally with at least six 3D targets), and a walk-through 3D range (currently 17 targets ranging in distance from 15 to 60 yards). The three practice ranges are available to all members at any time of the year, while the 30-target 3D course is reserved for our special Sunday shoots.

Events

During the spring and summer months the club sponsors monthly 30-target 3D shoots normally on the first Sunday of the month. Most of the targets are Rinehart targets and all are in excellent condition. This 30-target 3D course, which is separate from the three members-only practice ranges, is a 3/4 mile long loop with varying terrain and many uphill and downhill shots as well as shots from four elevated platforms. All members get their Sunday shoots for free, non-members pay $15.

See the calendar for all specific shoot dates.

CLUB NEWS

Our 3D shoots have been such a success this year that we have decided to extend the season and have another one on Sunday, September 22. We are hopeful that the weather will be a great September day and the turnout will be a good one. As usual, shooters will be able to start any time between 8 AM and noon. Members shoot for free and non-members pay $15. There will be food and drinks available for sale. There will not be a work day on Saturday, September 21. The range will be set up during the week so that members who hunt on Saturdays will not be effected by this shoot.

Our last “official” shoot of the 3D season was August 25. We had a solid turnout and the weather was great. It was nice to not have the humidity and heat beating us down physically.

As always, we thank the HMB members who helped make this entire 3D season a huge success. We have a great team of volunteers who are very dedicated and willing to put their sweat equity into making our range and events the best in the state. They have exceeded all expectations. Great work everyone! Thank you!
